The Career Learning Center of the Black Hills (CLCBH) is part of the Education and Workforce Development Division of Black Hills Special Services Cooperative. The mission of the CLCBH is to empower individuals to become self-sufficient through education, training and employment. CLCBH’s capacity to create partnerships to develop a unique, sustainable approach to improving career opportunities for adult learners is demonstrated by past and ongoing accomplishments. Through a variety of workforce development programs, the CLCBH provides career counseling, support, and instruction for individuals to develop and pursue their career pathway goals. These efforts are accomplished in partnership and collaboration with countless community-based organizations and post-secondary providers. CLCBH has provided education, training, and job placement services with a focus on at-risk populations for 30 years.
The CLCBH in Rapid City is the base for division activities, but they happen also in communities throughout the Black Hills and throughout the state with some programs. Participants enroll in job specific training, GED® preparation classes, adult basic education, English-as-a-Second Language instruction, computer and keyboarding classes, alternative high school learning, and post-secondary education.
CLCBH incorporates a caring and compassionate mentorship approach in supporting their customers, clients, and students with the ultimate goal of reaching their full potential. Their approach may best be described as a quote from Father Greg Boyle, S.J. "Kinship: Not serving the other, but being one with the other."
90% of the adult education students at the CLCBH earn at least one industry-recognized credential prior to leaving the program. This shows the strength of adult education as a workforce development program.
